Ways to Upgrade Your Diesel Engine’s Performance

United Diesel Repair does diesel engine upgrades to turn our customers’ vehicles into high-performance wonders. There are three ways you can upgrade your diesel engine, each of which comes with its own set of advantages. Let’s talk about how we can upgrade your diesel engine’s performance so you can determine if this is a good or necessary idea for your diesel automobile.

Intake and Exhaust Upgrade for A Diesel Engine

The reason why we’re including an exhaust upgrade with an air intake upgrade is that you’ll need to ensure your diesel engine can expel the excess exhaust caused by the air intake upgrade. The advantages of an air intake upgrade include increased cold air intake that increases oxygen intake. The more oxygen-rich air you take into your diesel engine the more combustion the engine will generate. This increases your engine’s performance. The related exhaust system upgrade not only helps your engine handle the excess exhaust but also keeps the engine cooler. A bonus benefit from these upgrades is a leaner and meaner-sounding diesel engine.

Fuel System Upgrade for A Diesel Engine

If you are looking for more horsepower, then you need to upgrade your diesel engine’s fuel system. This is the next natural step in upgrading your diesel engine; you’ve upgraded the air intake so now it’s time to upgrade the fuel pump and injectors to distribute more fuel into the engine. The original factory-installed fuel injectors focus on fuel economy rather than engine performance. An upgrade to high-flow fuel injectors can boost your engine’s performance and total horsepower. Upgrading the fuel pump, too, helps ensure the new fuel injector’s higher fuel demand is met. You want to make sure you have the right fuel pressure to match the increased oxygen intake.

Engine Control Module (ECM) Upgrade

You can amp up your diesel engine’s performance even more if you upgrade your ECM. This is the automobile’s onboard computer that is responsible for monitoring and operating all of the systems, including the fuel system and detonation. When you upgrade the ECM, you end up with tighter engine management designed to get as much horsepower out of the engine as possible. The new ECM can make adjustments to your engine’s compression ratio, pressure, timing, and transmission, all of which are designed to increase engine efficiency and boost horsepower. This is an upgrade that can be done on its own or in conjunction with the other upgrades listed above.
