Signs My Heavy-Duty Diesel Truck’s Transmission Is Bad

Bring your heavy-duty diesel truck to United Diesel Repair if the automatic transmission is acting up. The sooner we address the problem the less damage is caused to the transmission. We are experts in diesel truck transmissions, so you don’t need to look any further for the perfect diesel auto shop.

Cannot Stay in Gear

One sign that your heavy-duty truck’s transmission needs to be serviced right away is if it slips out of gear while you are in motion. You will know that the transmission has slipped into neutral because you will lose all engine power and your RPMs will go crazy.

Cannot Shift the Gears

Sometimes, the automatic transmission will start to slip out of gear before it loses its ability to shift the gears. It may also hesitate significantly as it shifts through the gear cycle. You need the automatic transmission to shift the gears. You cannot drive in first gear all the time.

Will Not Go Into Gear

There is a strong possibility that your heavy-duty truck’s transmission will become unresponsive if you ignore the above problems. What we mean by this is that you won’t be able to get the diesel truck in gear. You will be stranded with an inoperable automatic transmission.

Overheating/Fluid Leaks

If you drive an older diesel truck, it’s possible that the transmission may start to leak fluid out of one of the system parts. For example, the truck can start to leak transmission fluid out of a cracked transmission pan. The loss of fluid will cause the transmission to overheat.

Making Strange Noises

Your diesel truck may also start to make strange noises when the transmission is in operation. You do not want to hear any grinding or squealing when the transmission is shifting through the gear cycle. You also don’t want to hear humming when the transmission is sitting in neutral.

Making the Truck Vibrate

If your diesel truck vibrates when the transmission is doing its job, head straight to our shop. Even though there is a slight change in the engine’s RPMs, your heavy-duty truck should not jolt or vibrate when the transmission shifts a gear.

Check Engine Warning

Finally, you may end up with a check engine warning on your heavy-duty truck’s dashboard. This is the engine control module stepping in and telling you that there is a problem with the automatic transmission.
