When Should I Have My Diesel Truck Towed?

Simply put, there are times when you shouldn’t drive your diesel automobile. United Diesel Repair offers our customers 24/7 towing services to help them prevent damaging their diesel vehicles further. Driving a diesel big rig, light-duty truck, or car can be dangerous under the following situations. Rather than take chances, call us for a tow to our shop. We can fix the problem once the vehicle is at our shop.

Constant Overheating

If your diesel truck is running too hot and won’t cool down no matter what you do, pull over and call for a tow. Driving the truck when the engine is overheating can damage the engine beyond repair, despite the fact that diesels are built to withstand high heat. You may also start an engine fire with a hot engine.

Hot or Burning Odors

In fact, even if the truck isn’t overheating, if you smell hot or burning odors coming from the automobile, pull over and call for a tow truck. The worst thing that could happen is an engine or electrical fire. The diesel fuel may eventually ignite and explode. Don’t take chances with hot smells.

Excessive Exhaust

If your diesel truck is releasing excess exhaust, this, too, is a good reason to call for a tow to our shop. Too much exhaust points to a fluid hemorrhage in the engine. If the excess exhaust is black, the engine is burning away the diesel fuel. Even blue or white exhaust is a sign of serious engine problems.

Overheating Brake System

If you smell burning chemical odors and your brakes squeal every time you press down on the brake pedal, the brakes are overheating and you need to pull over right away. When the brake system gets too hot, it can no longer generate the friction it needs to stop, i.e., your diesel truck’s brakes will fail.

Strange Engine Noises

Strange engine noises are another reason to call for a tow truck. You may not realize it but you could cause additional damage to an already damaged engine if you keep driving your diesel vehicle. If the engine is making odd noises, play it safe and call us for a tow to our shop.

Uncontrollability

Finally, suspension problems can make your diesel truck impossible to control. It’s better to have the vehicle towed rather than try to drive it to our shop. If you are unable to control the automobile, you run a very high risk of causing an automobile accident.
